The Advantages of Electronic Access Control

Electronic Access Control is a system that allows authorized individuals to enter a building without an actual key. This type of system is designed for keeping unwanted visitors out, while at the same time permitting approved individuals to enter easily. Electronic Access Control systems are very common in buildings with a lot of personnel traffic in and out all day long.  This includes schools and universities as well as offices that need a system which provides the ability to either permit or deny individuals access to the building.

There are many advantages of Electronic Access Control systems, including the following:

There is no need for multiple individuals to hold an actual key. For a number of reasons,  it’s very rare nowadays for employers to provide multiple employees with actual old-fashioned keys to main building doors. First, when old-fashioned keys are lost, they have to be replaced. Second, when keys are lost, they are floating around somewhere – and you never know who will end up with them in their possession. Third, when old-fashioned keys are lost, it might be necessary to replace an entire lock and then provide all employees with brand new keys. Not using an Electronic Access Control system can ultimately prove to be more expensive and inconvenient in the long run.

It’s possible to monitor who enters a building and when they enter. When an individual has an electronic smart card,  the Electronic Access Control system can monitor exactly when that card is used, on which door, and at what time of day.

It is possible to restrict access to certain parts of the building or specific rooms. If you do not want certain individuals to have access to restricted parts of your building, or if you only grant a handful of people with unlimited access to a specific room, an Electronic Access Control system allows you to have these capabilities. This can be especially helpful in situations in which employees leave their jobs and you no longer want them to have access to your building.

Your building’s security will be enhanced. There are many reasons an Electronic Access Control system offers extra security for your building and your employees. This type of system prevents visitors from having free access to the building.  Also, you will be able to  monitor exactly who is in the building at any given time. Additionally, you will be able to manage your system from a remote location.

Electronic Access Control systems can be relatively basic or incredibly complex and integrated with other systems such as CCTV and other types of electronic security systems. But overall, one of the greatest advantages of an Electronic Access Control system is that it provides control over building entrances and/or exits..
